HackUTD, the largest university hackathon in North Texas, is a weekend long event where students build apps, hardware, and more. HackUTD provides a venue for self-expression and creativity through technology. People with varying technical backgrounds come together, form teams around a problem or idea, and collaboratively code a unique solution from scratch. Whether you're a frequent hackathon attendee or just getting started, we'd love to see what you can make.
What is HackUTD?
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a 24-hour competition where you and up to 3 of teammates can build a software project from scratch and submit it for prizes. Sponsors will be providing workshops, events, and a bunch of activities throughout the weekend for you to learn and innovate!
I have never hacked before, can I still participate?
That’s totally okay! No experience is required to attend a hackathon. We will be hosting a series of workshops to get hackers introduced to new programs and technology. And you’ll be able to find a team at the event!
What if I don’t have a team?
We’ll be having a teambuilding session at the start of the event to help those that don’t have teams! If you want your team to consist of just you, thats ok too!
Do I need any materials?
You’ll just need a laptop and internet to participate! A compiler, packages, or any large packaging tools are also advised to have ready beforehand too!
When is HackUTD VII Seas?
February 27th-28th, 2021
When is registration?
Registration opens on November 6th, 2020 and ends February 4th
What’s the cost?
There is no cost! Completely free to hackers!
Virtual hackathon? How does that work?
The HackUTD Team has been hard at work to bring you the best possible hackathon experience virtually! We will be using a virtual platform to bring as much of the fun of an in-person hackathon as possible to your homes!
What are the general rules?
The whole project must be built over the course of the weekend, you can’t demo anything you didn’t build, and everyone that attends the event (participants, mentors, volunteers, etc) must abide to the MLH code of conduct.
Can I use past projects?
It wouldn’t be a hackathon if it wasn’t new! You may not submit a project that you’ve used for other hackathons and you cannot submit your project from HackUTD 7 to other hackathons.
But what should I build?
You can build anything you want! Sponsors will be providing challenges for you to solve or you can submit something for the HackUTD awards. You can do both as well! More information will be released soon!
What are the prizes?
More information coming soon!
What about Hardware Projects?
Unfortunately we cannot provide hardware this year. If you have the hardware and materials you are more than welcome to still submit hardware projects!
What about volunteering?
More information coming soon!
Will there still be swag?
Swag will be given out to participants by mail to those that submit a project and live in the USA. More information coming soon!
